The experiment analyzed
the enzyme lactase and its relationship with four different sugar samples in
order to find which affected the catalyzation the most. Measuring the
absorbance of solutions of the enzyme and different sugars allowed for the
proper observation of which sample (glucose, sucrose, lactose, or a control
sample) would best succeed as an inhibitor. The results indicated that glucose
was able to inhibit the enzyme reactions occurring in lactase more than the
other samples. The approach of observing absorbance proved to be successful in
determining between the samples. Understanding enzyme reactions and how they
can be affected was clearly seen in this experiment.
