            On December
26, 1996, in Boulder Colorado, JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered in her home.
She was a 6-year-old beauty queen following her mother’s footsteps. Her parents
were Patsy and John Ramsey and she had a 9-year-old brother named Burke. This
was an ordinary family that was used to being in the spotlight.

            December 26th
was supposed to be a big day for the family. They were going to fly in John’s
private plane and take a Disney cruise. That morning, John Ramsey heard a
scream which was his wife who found a three-page handwritten ransom note. The
note claimed to be written by kidnappers who were foreign and demanded $118,000
in return for JonBenet.

            John Ramsey
decided to search the basement and found his daughter dead. She was found with
a rope wrapped around her neck and the same rope wrapped around her wrists. At
the end of the rope was a broken paintbrush from Patsy Ramsey’s art set. That
was when they knew she was not kidnapped. She was murdered. The question was,
who murdered JonBenet? Because there were so many people in and out of the
house and the fact that John Ramsey moved his daughter’s body and removed tape
from her mouth, the scene was contaminated. This caused major distress to the
detectives because this meant that now some of the evidence that was there
might be gone.

            The
investigation started with matching the handwriting from the ransom note. There
were some similarities between the handwriting on the ransom note and Patsy
Ramsey’s handwriting. Detectives also found that the ransom note was written on
Patsy’s note pad because there was a page that seemed to be a practice writing
of the note and the note’s handwriting
matched the practice writing. The family completed about 150 hours’ worth of
interviews along with DNA sampling and testing. John refused to talk to the
police and Burke kept changing his side of the story which made authorities
suspicious of him. Dr. John Meyer is the one who did the autopsy on JonBenet.
He said that the cause of death was suffocation and forcible trauma to her
skull.

            After many
years, the grand jury found Pasty and John Ramsey guilty on 2 counts of child
abuse resulting in death and accessory after the fact to first degree murder.
In 2006, Patsy Ramsey died of cancer and John Ramsey remarried. John Ramsey to
this day is trying to find out who killed his daughter.
